A  bright and pure Isle, actually.

For those who love a place where baking craftsmanship are matched with great coffee and a clean, minimal interior, seek the heaven-like Black Isle Bakery.

Approaching the huge windows decorated with a single, gorgeous bouquet of flowers you might mistake the café for a gallery first. Inside, the interior design continues to play with this art-like appearance. White furniture and white walls are contrasted with shining copper benches and small pictures and literary quotes serve as decent decoration. Even though the interior is quite pure it manages to not feels sterile or cold, especially when the sunlight bathes the space in light, and the indulgent scent of fresh baked goods from the adjacent bakery fill the room. It is almost warm, and very peaceful and calm.

The history of Black Isle Bakery started when Ruth, who was by then still living in London, was searching for a creative outlet where she could combine her fine arts background with a growing fascination of baking and craftsmanship.

She founded the bakery as a catering service in London, with only a few baking tins and a small oven, before relocating the business to Berlin and opening the bright café in 2017.

Just like the interior, the baked goods are stripped down to a pure yet tasteful minimum: cakes, cookies and pastries are neatly lined up and presented in a glass cabinet like small pieces of art. Inspired by seasonal produce, her Scottish heritage and classic baking techniques, all recipes are developed in house by Ruth. A must-try is her signature dish, the smoked salmon, crème fraiche and dill brioche-style-bun. Savoring it, you will find sitting there quite soothing, and find time to read or daydream while sipping your (very delicious!) coffee. Just make sure to leave room for a second dish – a crispy sweet but salty cookie, nutty banana bread or a slice of lemon drizzle cake? Quite hard to decide as everything is simply delish. Special diets are also catered for, with several options for vegan or gluten-free eaters.

In everything she does, Ruth strives to achieve the best, and the overall focus on simplicity and quality is clearly visible everywhere, and lies in each delicious bite.
