A Thing Of Beauty Is A Joy Forever…

I had this poem line by Yeats in my head the first time I entered Luiban. This small store has the finest selection of stationery imaginable, handpicked and beautiful products – pens and pencils, notebooks and albums, paper and cards, nicely lined up in beautiful shelves, waiting for you to take them home.

A love for beautiful things, but also a dedication to high quality and sublime design is running like a golden thread through everything at Luiban and it is especially notable when you have the chance to chat with one of the founders, be it about a special product, a unique notebook covered in linen or the overall joy of writing letters. You sense a mutual understanding, a shared passion.

Born out of this love, Luiban started as a small online shop, but as business was growing and more and more customers wanted to see the products live and touch them, in 2014 Luiban opened its doors in Berlin Mitte.

Quality is of the highest priority when it comes to selecting products, they shall not only be beautiful but well produced, too. And as notebooks and pens are close companions we keep with us everyday, the touch and feel of them should be pleasant, where the haptic material and surfaces play an equally important role.

Customers from all over the world come to the store with recommendations, gifts or ideas, and sharing this passion for products, for fine details and subtleties is a vital aspect of their work: witnessing the excitement of customers discovering products in the store, how sensual and fond they speak of a paper surface when gently running their hands over it. All is so inspiring and beautiful, and it’s also this close relationship with customers that makes Luiban so unique.

Both founders sense a strong increase of interest and passion for stationery, a return to the slow, the analogue, the personal. They truly believe that a handwritten letter says more than an email, as it means something, and even though this idea and fascination for written word got lost a bit during digitalization it will be appreciated even more in the future. We couldn’t agree more.
